Oh, Yes they did! Bridget and Craig received a letter from the insurance company last week, declining the live liver transplant. There is a process underway to appeal that decision, which is taking place right now! Needless to say this was very disappointing news on the tail of a very challenging few weeks for Gigi ( more on that in bit).
HELP: IF ANYONE OUT THERE HAS ANY EXPERIENCE IS THIS TYPE OF MATTER, WE ARE WIDE OPEN TO ANY INSIGHT OR DIRECTION!
As you may or may not know, Bridget is also dealing with a compromised immune system, so she is very susceptible to getting very sick from a common cold. Eighteen months ago it was a cold that did her in and it was a miracle that she recovered. Well, happened again as she caught a cold from Alana. But lessons where learnt from the last episode and so she checked into Central DuPage Hospital when it became apparent that she could not turn the corner on her own. Good thing, as she had developed pneumonia that could morph into septic shock at anytime and that would be real trouble...It was about a 3 day stay on antibiotics and back home to recover.
Couple of positive things to report too! The effects of the PRRT treatment seems to be having some of the desired effect as there has been some shrinkage of the liver that is providing some relief on her ribcage. The other excellent news to report is the ascites has diminished and Bridget has not been "tapped " in over a month. Considering that she was going in once a week and getting relieved of up to 1.7 liters of fluid, this does restore her to a better quality of life..so big news!!
The other significant news to report is that Bridget and I will be going down to the University of Chicago on Thursday for the following tests:
1- PET Scan
2- Liver Ultrasound to see blood flow
3- Mouth X-Ray
These are all tests to prepare for the transplant... When we get thru the insurance, tests and get listed for the transplant we will be starting the active search for a donor, thanks for your patience, we hope to have detailed info soon!
Gigi would never say so, but she is our baby girl and we know her moods maybe better than she does. Point is, I believe that our girl could use some support from Gigi's Journeywomen and Journeymen. So, please take a minute to drop her an email to remind her how much support and love she has out there. Or maybe a card, with a note! Or maybe both! It will mean so much...
